Install the game using your preferred method — DVD, ISO, or Steam — depending on the version you own.
Make sure that the Microsoft C++ Runtime Libraries (2005 or 2008) are properly installed on your system.
Also ensure that the Visual C++ Redistributable packages are correctly installed.
You can download the official launcher [here].
While other versions of the launcher may exist on the internet, they are likely outdated and not supported.
To install, simply place the launcher into your game’s installation folder.
Start the launcher and navigate to the Settings tab.
Here you’ll find a variety of customization options.
Before you can proceed, you’ll need to select your game installation:
Click the "Select Game" button
Browse to the folder where you installed the game
Choose the TDU2.exe file
It’s very likely the launcher will notify you that your game is not on the latest official version.
In this case, simply run the Game File Check.
The launcher will then go through several steps:
Check for missing files
Scan for corrupted or outdated files
Automatically download and replace them as needed
⚠️ Make sure the launcher has proper read/write permissions, as these are required to modify game files.
On the first launch, or after a Windows update, the game may prompt you with an activation window.
In that case, you’ll need your CD key:
For disc versions, it's printed on the insert inside your DVD box.
For Steam users, right-click the game in your library, go to Manage > CD Keys to find it..
For Steam Users Only
To ensure the game launches properly through Steam — allowing playtime tracking and achievement support — you’ll need to set a custom launch parameter.
🔧 How to set it:
Open your Steam Library
Right-click on Test Drive Unlimited 2
Select Properties
In the Launch Options field, enter the following command:
-direct
This tells Steam to start the game correctly with the custom launcher integration enabled.
This is a known issue, and it's usually caused by missing VC Redist components.
✅ Solution:
Make sure Visual C++ Redistributables are properly installed.
You can find the required installer either on the installation media or within the game directory.
Look for a folder named VCRedist and run the file named vc_red...exe.
This indicates that DirectX 9 is either missing or not properly installed.
✅ Solution:
Download and run the official DirectX Web Installer from [this link] (Microsoft Direct Download).
In 99% of cases, this will solve the issue.
If the error persists, check whether you’ve installed a crash fix.
Some fixes may be incompatible with certain GPUs — try switching to the alternative version provided in the launcher.
✅ Solution:
Make sure all required packages are installed correctly.
The Info tab inside the launcher will show what's missing or broken.
If everything looks fine, check the Windows Event Viewer for more detailed error logs that could indicate the issue.
